MANIFESTO OF THE DOORMAN SERIES Nice website and all, but who are you? Who is The Doorman? What is the purpose of all this? Why do you make music? The above may very well be the FAQ section of this website. Nice website and all, but who are you? Thank you for your kind remarks. I am schizophrenic, I ask myself questions and answer them (laughter in the audience). Well, I am The Doorman. That's all you need to know. Who is The Doorman? I am The Doorman (duh..). From the age of as early as 9 years old I have been making music, well.. first only songs in my head. During the European Championships soccer in 1996 while Spain was playing a game (I don't know why I remember this..), I picked up my brother's Ibanez guitar and recorded a couple of songs out of the blue on tape (with regard to archival purposes, the tape is lost). A year later I acquired myself an acoustic Ibanez (I thought my brother needed his one, but he hasn't played on his guitar ever since) and on 13 May 1997 I recorded my first songs that have survived erasure from tape. Until the end of 2002 I compiled six albums under the moniker of "The Standard Deviation Space Invaders" and meanwhile acquired a Tascam 4-track and an electric Fender guitar. I first adopted the name "The Doorman" in November 2002. Nevertheless, in 2003 I finished an album together with drummer Will Jones under yet another moniker, "god, evelyn and schmack". Songs from this album and Space Invaders classics together with some new material wound up on the first The Doorman record pre-emptive songs. What is the purpose of all this? Why do you make music? I'm not particularly making music for fun although it can be very inspirational and rewarding. I know I have a mission and that The Doorman series will evolve in a certain way. I already know a lot of future album titles, their themes and their artwork. The latter is just as important as the music. That's all I know, that's all I need to know and that's more than enough you need to know. There's only one take-home-message: S T A Y T U N E D The Doorman |
