The second instalment in The Doorman series, out of a broken heart, I made Jenny Hanivers was finished in February 2005.
I hated this album. I considered it inconsistent, too long, totally lacking any concept of production or mastering and deprived of any rewarding melody. Soon I realized I had constructed my own monster of Frankenstein. A parasiting creature sucking out all the joy and comfort there might be in earthly life. But that's what it is. As God exclaims on the mountain where Mozes receives the Ten Commandments: "I am what I am". This album is what it is, there is no need for further questioning.
Added note in 2009: total BS! The album is actually really good, ofcourse.. ;)
The listener is aimed to sympathize with those rejected, from access to a heart or from a permanent stay in the garden of Eden. The album is composed of 19 fragments which then feature sad acoustic strumming through a computer microphone, then beautifully composed songs with the help of Moroccan singer Samira Midhat, then mind-wandering piano melodies and now and then frenetic compulsory pointless noise. As pointless as a heart broken is.
For those of you who do not know, Jenny Hanivers were monstrosities constructed out of fossils having different origins and were sold and represented as eccentricities of nature. The 19 fragments together form a Jenny Hanivers but who's buyin'? (In succession to Megadeth, nobody actually bought peace..).
